Job Summary

Perform all pre-analytical functions as required to ensure that the samples received at BARC are correctly received and logged into the laboratory information system. This will allow for the downstream testing to be correctly performed and the appropriate results are received by the Clinical Research Sites. This department is also vital for identify quality control issues that could impact accurate reporting of laboratory results.

Key Performance Areas

DCF Identification
• The staff member does identify all data clarification errors on the laboratory requisition forms or similar documents.

Cold Chain
• The staff member must follow best cold chain practises at all times, to ensure all samples are processed optimally.

Filing
• The staff member must file all paperwork in the department, making sure to do this with a high level of accuracy.

Good Customer Service
• The staff member must at all times be polite to clients and help with all problems presented to them to the best of their ability.

Health and Safety
• The staff member must work in accordance to all health and safety aspects as indicated in the group SHEQ manual and the BARC-SA manuals and SOPs.

Housekeeping
• The staff member must follow good housekeeping practices in the areas they are working-this includes but is not limited to keeping their areas clean and tidy; cleaning all work stations correctly before and after working in them. Not using cell phones in laboratory areas, keeping all personal belongings in their designated lockers.

IATA
• The staff member if expected to perform all work as per IATA requirements.

Maintain Confidentiality
• The staff member is expected to maintain confidentiality at all times, this confidentiality is inclusive of all functions that occur at BARC-SA, Lancet and CERBA groups.

Maintain High Quality
• The staff member is expected to maintain high quality at all times as outlines in the BARC-SA quality manual.

Management of Insufficient Samples
• The staff member is responsible to report all insufficient samples to the service team and the project manager. This needs to be done timeously so a new sample can be collected from the participant.

Pass Through Shipment
• The staff member is expected to be able to process and send samples that come to BARC-SA as a pass through shipment.

Pre-Alerts
• The staff member is expected to log pre-alerts onto Meditech.

Pre-analytical Result Entry
• The staff member is expected to enter pre-analytical results into Meditech as required.

QC Shipment Receipt
• The staff member is expected to be able to receive all shipments of samples arriving at the pre-analytical area of BARC-SA.

QC Shipment Weighing and Recording
• The staff member is expected to be able to weigh and record the weight of all shipments of samples arriving at the pre-analytical area of BARC-SA.

Receiving
• The staff member is expected to be able to receive all samples coming to the pre-analytical area following best practices.

Sample Sorting
• The staff member is expected to be able to sort samples received so they can be correctly delivered to the testing laboratory.

Samples Delivery
• The staff member is expected to be able to deliver all samples received by BARC so they can be correctly tested.

Scanning
• The staff member is expected to perform scanning of all relevant paperwork received in the pre-analytical laboratory daily.

Team Player
• As a staff member at BARC-SA, it is expected that one works as part of a team to achieve the mission of BARC-SA and offer clients the best service while respecting your fellow colleagues.

Use of LIMS
• All staff at BARC-SA are expected to be able to perform the required functions on Meditech.

Centrifuge
• The staff member operates and maintains centrifuges.

Scale
• The staff member operates and maintains scales.

Fridge
• The staff member operates and maintains fridges.

Freezer
• The staff member operates and maintains freezers.

Scanner and Computer Equipment’s
• The staff member operates and maintains scanner and computer equipment’s.

Date Stamp
• The staff member operates and maintains date stamp.

CO2 Monitor
• The staff member operates and maintains co monitor.

Air Conditioners
• The staff member operates and maintains air conditioners.

Add Tests
• The staff member does add new/additional tests that are requested by the sponsor/client.

AOR Receipt of Kit Order
• The staff member must receive kit orders and log them into meditech accurately to ensure that the kits are correctly ordered (service).

Biobank Shipment
• The staff member must prepare all shipments of samples that have passed quality control for long term storage at the biorepository.

Cancel tests
• The staff member does cancel tests as requested by the sponsor/client.

LDMS Logging
• The staff member is must to be able to log new samples into LDMS.

Logging
• The staff member should be able to log all requisition forms and tests requested by BARC-SA clients.

Logging of kit Orders on Collaborator
• The staff member does log all kit orders as requested by BARC-SA clients, this will ensure the kits are made and supplied timeously to the clients.

Receipt of Kit Order
• The staff member is expected to be able to receipt all kit orders into the Meditech system to facilitate the timely manufacturing of kits at BARC-SA for the clients. This will be on collaborator.

Adhoc
• The staff member must perform all reasonable requests given by their line manager.

BARC Code of Conduct
• The staff member must perform all duties as per the BARC code of conduct outlined in the quality manual.
