Job Summary:
|
Ensure efficient performance of laboratory processes; monitoring outstanding reports, sample processing, perform PCR reactions, analysis of data, and reporting of medical results within defined times. Adheres to and monitors quality control procedures and health and safety within the laboratory. Assists management with supervision and training of staff.

Minimum Criteria Required:
|
Registration in relevant discipline with HPCSA National diploma in Biomedical Technology/ Bsc Graduate
|

Experience:
|
3-5 Yrs Relevant Working Experience Previous supervisory of staff experience an advantage

Key Performance Areas:
|
• Assists management with supervision of staff in line with delegated responsibilities and/or deputising requirements, to ensure that operational objectives are achieved and employees are able to achieve performance objectives. • Ensures the implementation of service levels and quality standards in accordance with standard operating procedures and service level agreements • Adheres to and oversees quality control procedures within the laboratory including GCLP, equipment maintenance and health and safety, thereby ensuring compliance with relevant organisational policy and laboratory standard operating procedures. • Ensures that incidents, quality control failures and instrument failures are reported and documented by laboratory staff, and performs investigations into and resolution thereof. • Performs diagnostic testing procedures on medical samples, including DNA/RNA extraction and purification, PCR amplification of target gene, analyses of instrument data, and result entry on Laboratory information system. • Records, verifies and amend (when required) test results to ensure integrity of test result database on laboratory information system • Creates and reviews sample Worksheets on laboratory Information system to ensure all tests are performed for samples as requested, ensure repeat tests performed, and ensure TAT of results is achieved on samples. • Assists management to ensure a safe working environment in accordance with relevant legislation and all safety protocols. This includes the on-going maintenance of quality control standards, adherence to infection control measures and correct disposal of biohazardous waste • Assists with technical training and guidance of new staff, student technicians and student laboratory assistants. • Performs investigations into and resolution of customer complaints to ensure a positive image of the organisation by clients and patients and to promote the services of Lancet laboratories. • Attends in-service training and seminars and participates in continuing professional development (CPD) activities to continuously update knowledge and skills as well as comply with professional registration requirements. This includes ensuring the availability of up to date records that can be presented immediately on request thereof. • Adheres to professional conduct requirements in line with organisational policy and relevant professional body ethical standards. • Performs supervisory responsibilities including team management, delegation of duties, conflict resolution, encourage team development through leadership and motivation, involved in disciplinary processes, monitoring of time and attendance of staff members. • Monitoring team members’ performance in laboratory skills and efficiency of workload processing, and conducts annual Performance Appraisals of team members. • Assists with maintenance and calibration of equipment used in the laboratory to ensure operational efficiently and providing accurate results. This includes ensuring that instrument maintenance and quality control results are recorded as well as trouble shooting. • Represents the organisation by applying the principles of customer care in the medical pathology field and interacts professionally and ethically with patients, clients, doctors and other hospital staff.
