An opportunity has presented itself to appoint a suitably qualified candidate into the position of Anti-Coagulation Clinic: Registered Nurse. This is a Permanent position based at JHB - Richmond Head Office.
 
Job Summary:
Responsible for assisting patients with the intake of correct medication and dosages
Responsible for assisting the pathologists with the adjusting of patients Warfarin dosages according to the INR results and to determine the date of retesting. Handles inbound and outbound calls from patients giving out relevant information and providing excellent customer service to patients
 
Minimum Criteria Required:
Grade 12 or relevant NQF level 4 qualification
Certification in Midwifery
Certification in Warfarin Management

 
Experience:
3-5 Yrs Relevant Working Experience
 
Relevant Job Knowledge:
Different dosages/type of medication
Organisational policy and procedures
 
Key Performance Areas:
• Ensures that patients/clients, from whom a blood specimen (e.g. Coagucheck rapid INR test) is to be taken, are correctly identified and educated about the actual procedure and their rights, in compliance with the relevant standard operating procedures
• Performs finger prick test of patients of Lancet Corner, using the correct and sterile equipment in a manner that will yield the best results. This may include the use of point of Care rapid testing kit for INR testing
• Observes the physical condition of patients during the test and applies sound first aid practices in order to ensure the safety and comfort of patients/clients
• Ensures that bio-hazardous waste is disposed of in the correct manner to comply with relevant safety protocols and standard operating procedures
• Entering of the results in accordance with the prescribed standard operating procedures for filing of reports
• Monitors stock levels of the collection materials, and informing HOD on stock levels to ensure the availability of required materials at all times
• Implements sound housekeeping procedures and work effectively with others as a member of a team to ensure a safe working environment in accordance with relevant legislation and all safety protocols
• Confirm with patients on dosages to be taken to ensure correct intake of medication
• Assist the pathologists with adjusting the Warfarin dosage according to INR results of patients and determination of retest dates.
• Receive faxes and print referral letters from Lancet Laboratories and depot for new dosage patients and interview new patients. Referral letters placed in file and kept in department for 6 months.
• Attend to all telephone queries around warfarin and assist on other queries as well, e.g.results, dosages and retest dates: information regarding diet, other medication, protocol for surgical procedures and going on holiday
• Reports incidents, log customer complaints and problem solving. Handle and resolve customer complaints where necessary to ensure customer satisfaction
• Fax through completed dosage forms to hospital laboratories and/or depots for distributing to the various wards with the prescribed dosage and retest dates

Remuneration:
