Responsible for supervising and controlling the transport and collections divisions to ensure the efficient and timeous collection and delivery of specimens and shuttle services. Also responsible for security and parking functions in the periphery.

Key Performance Areas:
|
• Ensures that vehicles in the Central fleet are well maintained and in good working order to provide efficient and timeous collection and delivery of samples, goods and shuttle services. • Analyses monthly petrol reports to detect unauthorised transactions to ensure that the organisation does not incur unnecessary costs. • Responsible for ensuring the speedy collection and delivery of samples, reports and shuttle service through efficient control of the fleet and route logistics. • Captures monthly overtime on Paywell (payroll system) ensuring the correct amount of hours worked have been captured and that employees will be paid correctly then submits to the Regional Collections Manager for authorisation. • Ensures inspection of all vehicles on dispatch and on return of vehicles from shifts to detect damages and to check if spare wheel and other tools have not been removed from vehicles. • Monitors vehicle mileage weekly and ensures that vehicles are serviced on time. • Handles customer complaints as well as escalated queries and complaints to ensure good quality customer services. • Logs calls on the Courier Management Programme to keep record of calls logged and to follow up on progress of collections and deliveries. • Is responsible for cost control and cost containment for the department to ensure that costs are maintained at an acceptable level. • Assist drivers with completing accident reports to ensure that they are completed correctly and submitted timeously for claims to be processed and reports all accidents to the relevant HOD’s and Insurance Company. • Monitors the speed of drivers on Geotab to ensure that policies and procedures pertaining to couriers are adhered to and that staff is not breaking any speed laws as well as reduce accident rates and vehicle damage. • Drafts rosters for day and night shifts to ensure that there is a supervisor and enough staff on the floor to maintain the 24/7 day work flow. • Assists with the traffic fine process and enforces the speeding policy identifying repeated offender to ensure that necessary punitive measured are implemented. • Attend to emergency breakdowns by arranging for vehicles to be towed and alternative transport organised. • Manages the day to day activities of the transport department including approving of leave and overtime, disciplinary as well as performance management and development of staff. • Organises special driving tests with Assessors to assess potential recruits to ensure that only qualified and competent drivers are employed. • Manages the ordering and issuing out uniforms (branded shirts), protective clothing (eye specs, helmets, gloves, etc.) and equipment for new and existing staff to ensure that employees maintain a professional appearance and are safe when working with hazardous materials. • Visiting the peripheral laboratories that forms part of his/her region to ensure all functions regarding the collections department and staff is well maintained and efficient. • Communicates potential problem areas to the Regional Collections Management/Management and assists with providing solutions to prevent problems in the future and ensures that existing problems do not escalate.
