Minimum Criteria Required:

National diploma in Biomedical Technology or BSc Medical Laboratory Science Registration in relevant discipline with HPCSA Relevant diploma

Key Performance Areas:
|
Quality Assurance Functions: • Oversees and monitors laboratory accreditation, including preparation for audits, maintenance of current status, document updates and scope of approved tests, to ensure that accreditation is achieved or obtained in line with organisational objectives.
• Monitors and oversees the correct application of quality assurance processes and standard operating procedures to ensure corrective actions are taken as required.
• Monitors the implementation of service levels and quality standards in accordance with the principles of Good Laboratory Practice, SANAS accreditation requirements, standard operating procedures and service level agreements with clients, to ensure that the laboratory is constantly able to deliver a high quality, cost effective and safe service.
• Monitors the maintenance and calibration of the equipment used in the laboratory to ensure that it is operating efficiently and providing accurate results. This includes ensuring that instrument maintenance and quality control results are recorded as well as trouble shooting.
• Schedules Internal/External assessments for Auto-lab as per QA instruction and prepares documentation for assessment to ensure the laboratory’s QA procedures and protocols are followed.
• Assists with the QA assessment reports after an assessment (internal/external) and makes suggestions to ensure that corrective actions are taken, followed up and completed.
• Prepares monthly reports for QA and/ or Management meetings, interprets and presents the reports (e.g. trend analysis) to ensure that no errors or instrument discrepancies are missed entailing a financial implication.
• Assists with training of staff on-site relating to QA matters, ensuring that QA protocols and procedures are followed and understood.
• Oversees and monitors in-service training, seminars and participation in continuing professional development (CPD) activities to ensure that laboratory staff continuously update their knowledge and skills as well as comply with professional registration requirements. This includes ensuring the availability of up to date records that can be presented immediately on request thereof.
• Liaises with BARC for Good Clinical Laboratory Practice requirements and is available for clinical trial audits to ensure correct procedures and protocols are followed.
• Maintains files for record keeping purposes to ensure the correct documentation is available on request thereof.
• Assists the laboratory manager to ensure a safe working environment in accordance with relevant legislation and all safety protocols. This includes the on-going maintenance of quality control standards, adherence to infection control measures, correct disposal of bio-hazardous waste and project management (as per delegated responsibilities) of the preparation process for internal and external quality control audits.
• Adheres to professional conduct requirements in line with organisational policy and relevant professional body ethical standards and monitors compliance of own employees in this regard.
• Performs the role of a medical technologist as required in accordance with operational needs.
Assay validations • Manages, set-up, maintains and distributes all relevant documentation on collaborator regarding assay validations to ensure correct protocol and procedures are followed and understood.
• Awaits validation assay feedback in report form for follow up and corrective action to ensure tests are suitable for laboratory purposes.
•Validates test methods regarding trials to ensure new kits (reagents) are working correctly on the relevant laboratory instrumentation.
• Oversees and ensures that senior staff action incidents and instrument failures relating to QC procedures once picked up by QA Officer to ensure compliance with relevant organisational policy and laboratory standard operating procedures.
